”Summer of Soul” (2021) / documentary

On Friday April 14th at 20:30, come and watch a documentary about Soul, after which we’ll listen to it some more! In 2021, Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, drummer for the Roots, reintroduced the festival with his debut documentary ”Summer of Soul (…Or, When the Revolution Could Not Be Televised)”, using never seen footages of concerts by Stevie Wonder, Nina Simone, Sly & the Family Stone, Gladys Knight & the Pips, Ray Baretto, Abbey Lincoln & Max Roach and more. The documentary shines a light on the importance of history to our spiritual well-being and stands as a testament to the healing power of music during times of unrest, both past and present. Recently it won the Oscar for Best Documentary at the 94th Academy Awards ceremony on March 27.
